Reflecting on the Powerful Pennefather Beach Clean-Up and Our Incredible Shirts!
A huge thank you to the NAPRANUM ABORIGINAL SHIRE COUNCIL Community on the West Coast of Cape York for our wonderful shirts received today!! They are absolutely awesome!! They have brought back many memories of the Pennefather Beach Clean Up last September.
Wendy Kent and Royston Kent (our Co-Founders) were invited by Tangaroa Blue Foundation @Brett Tait and Heidi Tait to travel up to Weipa and then on to Pennefather Beach to help with a huge Beach Clean up. It was a trip with many emotions, sadness, heartbreak, shock, anger, accomplishment, team spirit, laughs and adventure. Thousands of thongs, plastic bottles, oil bottles, commercial fishing gear etc littering such a beautiful and remote beach!! To drive along the beach on that first day was heart-breaking but as the clean-up took shape you could see the difference even after Day 1, collecting more than 800kg of waste - that’s just after one day of collecting!!! Shocking!!!
A huge thank you to the Napranum Traditional Owners' elders, Napranum Rangers, and families who invited Tangaroa Blue Foundation to help carry out the first ever beach clean up in history!
