Precision Injection Moulding: A Snapshot of Sequential Gating

In plastic injection moulding, no two projects are the same. Every mould is unique, designed to meet specific product requirements and engineered for optimal performance. At B & C Plastics, we understand that precision is key—from the initial concept to the final manufactured component.

The Moulding Process: From Concept to Production

Developing a high-performance mould is a meticulous process that can take months to complete. It begins with in-depth discussions with our clients to fully understand their needs. From there, we move through a structured workflow:

  • Concept Design & Prototyping – Turning ideas into viable product designs.

  • Testing & Design for Manufacture – Ensuring efficiency, durability, and performance.

  • Tooling & Mould Development – Crafting moulds with precision engineering.

  • Textures & Finishes – Customising surface details for aesthetics and function.

  • Production & Quality Assurance – Delivering high-quality components with consistency.

Each stage plays a crucial role in ensuring the final product meets exact specifications while optimising cost, efficiency, and durability.

What is Sequential Gating?

Sequential gating is an advanced injection moulding technique used in complex or multi-cavity moulds to precisely control material flow. Unlike conventional moulding, where all gates open simultaneously, sequential gating opens and closes specific gates at different stages of the injection process.

This method ensures:

  • Uniform Material Distribution – Reducing inconsistencies in fill patterns.

  • Minimised Weld Lines & Sink Marks – Enhancing part strength and appearance.

  • Improved Structural Integrity – Maintaining consistent pressure and balanced filling.

  • Optimised Material Use – Reducing waste and improving efficiency.

Sequential gating is particularly beneficial for large, intricate parts, thin-walled components, and high-precision multi-cavity moulds, where maintaining even pressure and material flow is critical.

Advanced Technology for Superior Moulding

At B & C Plastics, we integrate cutting-edge technology to manufacture high-spec moulds. Our 25-zone hot runner manifolds, controlled by multi-zone sequential gating systems, enable us to produce world-class components with exceptional quality, precision, and efficiency.

This technology-driven approach ensures superior cosmetic and mechanical properties while optimising manufacturing efficiency and minimising material waste.
